gospel@pub – Since 2006Two residents of Silverlakes, Julian Lombaard and Werner Reinach, felt that people in their area spend too much time on the golf course and not much in church. Min. Gawie Malan and Min. Paul Hendriks from Beautiful Noise Ministries was approached and they agreed to scout for a venue where residents of Silverlakes can come together for a church sermon. They searched high and low and stopped at Foundry Fly Lounge for refreshments. Whilst chatting to the owner they discovered that the place was closed on Sundays due to a robbery on a previous Sunday. They told the owner about their search for a venue and a curious Gawie asked the owner what he was doing to give back to the community. The owner immediately offered the Foundry Fly Lounge as a venue and the first gospel@pub started on 7 May 2006. Soon it was realized that God did not intend this ministry to be exclusive to Silverlakes, but it was meant to serve everyone out there, and sermons were not the route to go, because in a bar, you will find all kinds of people, i.e. people who are "allergic" to church, sceptics, people with questions, the lost, the wounded, hardened non-believers, addicts, jobless and just normal people who feel lonely in life. We thus invite guest speakers to discuss interesting topics or to come and share their inspiring testimonies, and musicians to perform lively secular music. Through time, research was done to find a suitable way to reach out to people who avoid going to church, as they are easily put off by traditional sermons and gospel music. The bar is used as a gateway to make new friends and develop trust. We also assist with trauma, crisis therapy as well as addiction. We also partner with Jacob’s Well to assist those who are between jobs to find work. Finally, we share the gospel and encourage people to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. For those who are in a relationship with Jesus Christ, we provide courses on Discipleship and Bible Overview. During the past 10 years after starting at Foundry Fly Lounge, we moved to the Farm Inn, Tivoli’s and since 13 September 2009 we have been at Rafters Pub and Grill, Garsfontein road, Mooikloof. g@p is not a church g@p is not a cell-group g@p is not a bible study group or class g@p is not a sermon g@p is not a club with members We do whatever it takes to help people to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ, one life at a time. |
